House Republicans Continue to Work for America

There are no television cameras, no microphones, and the lights are dim. House Republicans, however, remain in Washington to speak on the high energy prices facing Americans and demand that Speaker Pelosi allow a vote on a comprehensive energy package that would give American families some relief. Congressman Goode joined Republicans on Wednesday, August 20th on the House floor in the continuing fight for lower energy costs. He discussed the need for drilling in the Artic National Wildlife Refuge and the Outer Continental Shelf. He also spoke in support of alternative energy sources, such as ethanol produced from switchgrass and miscanthus, and the use of canola as a biofuel.

Festivals and Fairs

As summer draws to a close and fall approaches, localities across the Fifth District are beginning to hold annual festivals and fairs. Congressman Goode attended the Appomattox Food Festival on August 15th. The Food Festival is hosted by the Appomattox Lions Club, and the proceeds will be used to provide assistance to blind and deaf persons. Over 3,000 people attended the festival, but supporters for Perriello were nowhere in site.

Congressman Goode also attended the Virginia Cantaloupe Festival. This event has been held annually in Halifax County since 1981 and draws over 3000 people. Congressman Goode sampled Virginia-grown cantaloupe and spoke with many supporters from Southside.

The Greene County Fair was held from August 12-August1 16. This summer the fair had a record number of attendees. Congressman Goode attended the fair and spoke with many citizens in Greene County.

Congressman Goode was in Washington during the Albemarle County Fair, but Goode Supporters were on at the fair passing out balloons, pencils, and fans.
